Laughing Lincoln at home

The story behind Lincoln and the town of Naperville, Illinois (which until late 2018 was probably the last town in Illinois without a sculpture of Honest Abe) is that Lincoln made a deal with city founder Joseph Naper to help make Springfield  the capitol of Illinois, and Naperville the county seat of DuPage County. He is shown seated on a facsimile of the DuPage County Courthouse, which stood at this Central Park site from 1839-1868. His hand rests on a bronze version of the deed recognizing Naperville.
